I unhooked my battery in order to hook up my electric vest this weekend. When I hooked the battery back up my odometer read 0 and has now started counting miles from then. Has this happened to anyone else? How do I get the correct mileage for my bike back?

Thanks, JAY

I know its an obvious question, but we are talking about your main odometer and not the trip meter mileage?
If its the main one thats a new one on me!

yep its the main one. I now have only 78 miles on my Norge.

Hope I can get mine to do it in a few years when it's time to sell it. Should really increase its value.

Uh I guess then it would be cool but the wear and tear might give it away. So anybody have any knowledge on this?

I recall reading that there was a one-time reset to zero if the odometer reading was below a certain value. I don't remember the exact procedure for zeroing the odo, but it looks as though you found it.

The manual for the Norge states to put the engine-kill switch in the "off" position when you remove or replace the battery, to protect sensitive components. You may have noticed that there is some whirring going on when you restore contact at the negative terminal, even with the contact off. You may have gone lucky, just resetting the odo - but you might want to visit a dealer to see if you still have the latest map. It's not impossible that you erased the flash memory, and that you're now riding with some sort of default map (if such a thing exists).

Ahh yes you are right I did not turn the kill switch on when I replaced the battery. Bike still runs the same though. Just has 8000 or so less miles.

Hi all,

I've got a B11 with the counter reset. In my case I had a new dashboard installed under warranty because of condensation. I asked the dealer that exact question - Can we change the odometer to match the original milage? Answer was no.

I would love to be able to change it just so I can synchronize my odometer to my service indicator icon on the dash.

cheers

Eh? That icon is linked to the odometer, no? If not, there's ANOTHER odometer somewhere aboard, and it OUGHT to be possible (in fact, obligatory) to make the dash display it's value rather than something else.

there is a rumor that the computer also keeps up with mileage. If it is true then some how maybe it is possible to put the right miles back on the bike. If anyone knows the answer or can figure it out I would appreciate it.

The computer that's the ECU, or the computer in the dash ....?
