Just got it firing!
Hi Guys ... thanks for the responses.
Here in OZ I have been in touch with RYCO and guess what? RYCO make a Moto Guzzi specific oil filter ... RMZ126.
Thanks to a friendly Autobarn motorcycling salesguy (High St Maitland)I made this discovery ... bought the Penrite 10W-70 oil from there
Autobarn was unable to order a motorcycle part so ordered from local motorcycle shop.

John,
These bosch, fram and purolator (and many other) filters are not generally available here in OZ.
Bib,
Try(widely available reliable OZ brand) Ryco Z418 it is the closest fit in their range.
I'm using a Z68 which is 30mm longer than standard. Easier to get a grip on but potentially a bit more vunerable.
Be very careful using non standard filters as the seal area dimentions are very important(critical). Due to the limited space in which it sits up in, so is the seam measurement.
This is some of the 3/4 inch thread possibles I've found
ufi/guzzi...seal inner/outer-60/72mm..outer seam-77.5..height-86
Z418 -?/71.2 -77.5 -89
Z68/63 -63/72 -78 -120
Z87A -?/70 -82 -90
The Z418 and Z87A measurements are from the online cross reference/product catelogue and i have not checked them physically.
The UFI and Z68/63 I have checked myself with a vernier!
For example the Z87A fits but the seal is only 70mm in diameter and the seam diameter may interfere with the sump surround.
So you have to decide for yourself if everything lines up and the filter you choose is suitable.
Your local shop can get a couple of Hiflo 551 for you surely
100kms is not that far! it,s only in to Newcastle or Richmond ....go for a ride and buy 2 or 3. At least you know they fit and get some oil while your at it!
