Oil Dipstick

On the dipstick subject, went to check oil level on my newly acquired 08 Norge. There is no marking on dipstick and owner's manual shows min. and max. levels but no marks. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi all, yes I agree. I have a 2012 1200S and the plastic screw in dipstick is very difficult to see the oil on the high and low marks. You need to look very closely in good light. The high and low oil marks are determined by a ring of extruded plastic above and below the "X" shaped extrusion that the bottom shank of the dip stick is made from? Otherwise you run the risk of engine damage from over or under fill. The wizzard of bungendore makes a special mention to always (ALWAYS!) make sure that you don't overfill! Another important fact is that the instruction manual mentions that you don't screw the dip stick in to take an oil measurement after filling! You slide it in without screwing it up and take the measurement. If you screw it in, this will make your reading about 25mm higher than it should be, and you will risk underfilling if you are accurate with your measurement. You wouldn't think some thing so simple could be that important. Worth having a really good read of your manual and making sure you are au fait with the correct fill marks on the 1200s model dip stick.
To answer your initial question though ; no I have not seen an after market one that's any better! just make sure your in good light, you will see the OEM one OK. Regards Laurie.
