Back in Nov 2023 Florida Lime asked if anyone knew an easier way to reinstall the oil filter cover in the v100. I had little difficulty on the first four changes (definately much mor finicky than a screw-on filter), but it was a pain on the fifth oil change (last two changes on the second Mandello). It took me several tries and at least 20 minutes to instal the cover correctly, s leaks. Should I try softening the spring first?, woul a shorter spring exert less, but enough pressure? I ended up installing the two most posterior screws first (with much difficulty) and then the front one and it finally stopped leaking.
Thank you very much guys. I am a terrible mechanic.

If it's the same type of cover as the v7 series it can go on several ways but only one is correct. The fins need to run the same direction as the engines and there is an odd shaped one that goes in just so. Look hard at it.

Yes Vagrant. The first four oil changes/cover installation went well. It was on the fifth reinstal where I had difficulties. I do not understand why it was different. I'd imagine that the spring is exactly the same (dimensions, tension, etc). Well, I am sure the nexy one will be a breeze:cool:.
Thank you.

Not the spring. The cover has a front and a back. You most likely have it on backwards.

It has three bolts. The holes will not align if it is not in the correct position. Again, had no troubles on the first four changes but it was horrible on the fifth. I'll let you know wht happens in the next one in 3,000 miles.

Thank you

Yes, it's very easy to see the correct orientation, and the bolt pattern only allows it to go in the correct position.
One poster mentioned replacing the bolts with studs and then using nuts to bring the plate into position so it doesn't stress the threads in the case.
