Oil Leak

I just got home from a nice little Friday afternoon ride where I took the long way home from work.

I got off the Griso to open the garage door and looked at my tyres to see how they went. The rear looked like I had just over-lubed my chain...seeing as the Griso doesn't have a chain, and I hadn't just lubed it, I immediately thought that scenerio wasn't the most likely.
I also thought I might have gone through some water or a puddle on the road.

Once I opened the garage door I realised there was something dripping from the bike....shit sticks.

Dipping my finger in the little puddle confirmed it. The whole (cooler) side of the engine was covered from the cooler down.

I'm not 100% sure where the leak is coming form, and the bike shop wont come pick it up until Monday...so I get to use their friggen 'courtesy' bike again.

Is there a known problem with the 8Vs dumping oil from the lower right region? or is this something new?

How new is your 8V?

Look at the date on the bulletin. If your bike has NOT been fixed before sale or the sale date predated the bulletin and you weren't informed I'd ask questions.

This information IS available. The problem, (And yes, it is a problem.) has been idenified and addressed by the factory. It is VERY hard for me to see how they could do anything more than issue the bulletin. Of course if nobody at the shop ever looks at the Servicemotoguzzi. site......??????

As to why this has happened? see a previous message with an explanation. I'll do it again if i have to but a bit of searching will find it.

Pete

Caspar, the Leak that Phang referred to was mine. Basically the pipe to the oil cooler was only hand tightened at the factory. Be interesting to see if yours was the same or from the problem that Pete raised. Regards, Nigel.

Thanks for the links guys.

I'm hoping it's just a loose fitting like nigelm's, not overly thrilled with it leaking oil, but a loose fitting is the lesser of all evils.

Pete, I specifically asked, when I picked the bike up from the first service, if there were any outstanding service bulletins on the bike. They spent 10 mins looking and said it was all ok. So I assume it has been done or didn't need it, but I will mention it again when I talk to them tomorrow.

Was so disappoint, it was a beautiful day here in Melb, having a running Griso would have made it so much better.

Hi guys - new to the forum but have been googling madly for the last few months re a few grizzles I have with my 2008 Griso 8V. Mainly an oil leak (more on which below). I have 15000 kms on the clock - though there may be a few more that went unrecorded whenever the speedo cacked itself - Pete Roper's fix was too late and so I've ordered a new unit which will have the Roper seal from day 1! Had the tappets done on the recall at first service and there was a warranty fix on a clutch plate problem done at the dealers after about 9000kms. I fitted the Termi pipe a few months ago and left in the db killer. Plus got the ECU remapped #068. Didn't do the drilled out holes on the airbox cover yet. I reckon it was working a treat - breathing better and just a bit of pop on the overrun which I happen to like. BUT then I spotted a few drops of oil under the bike a couple of months ago. It was after a 2 hour high speed run. I couldn't work out where it was coming from. Some seemed to be misting down from under the tank, but there seemed to be more coming from the lower parts. I checked the oil level and it didn't need topping up. The clutch and brake oils seemed full too. I couldn't sniff the difference either. The Brissie/Gold Coast dealers couldn't tell me what was wrong without taking the whole thing apart. I checked this forum and there were a lot of helpful suggestions which I printed out for the dealer. The bike was out of warranty but the parts were offered free (flange case, push rod seals etc). However it's the labour that costs ($1100 ouch). Have just got the bike back and running sweet again - no leaks so far. But the dealer couldn't tell where the trouble had come from. So I'm still in the dark. One thing leads to another however and in checking out the engine, the dealer said that the exhaust valves were white as a sheet. Uh oh! I don't have the spare cash after this last bill to get all the guzzitech gizmos suggested to regularise the lean burn - especially as I'm not getting any lurching or irregularity in the throttle response. What to do???
