I’ve searched the site, but can’t find an answer. 2015 V7 stone, 17,000 miles, stock except for GTM slip ons and GTM fuel map. Oil is fresh, correct weight, and correct fill level. The bike runs fine with no new issues. But recently, I’ve noticed that the oil pressure light is behaving differently than it used to.
Normal past operation was like this: Turn on ignition, motor not started. The dash lights illuminate and go through their check cycle and then ALL turn off (except neutral indicator). It didn’t matter whether the bike was hot or cold, this always happened the same way.
Lately, I find that when the bike is cold (the first fire-up of the day), the lights behave as described. But once the bike is thoroughly warmed up, the oil pressure light now remains illuminated after the check cycle. It goes out immediately upon engine fire-up, and doesn’t come on at all while running. But now it immediately illuminates when the motor is stopped.
In reading multiple threads on the topic, I find everyone saying that the OP light should always be on when the ignition is on but the motor is not running. This makes total sense (motor not running, so not making oil pressure, so warning light is on). But my problem is: My bike did not behave like that, the OP light NEVER came on (except briefly during the check cycle), and now it does.
I’m wondering if this is a sign that the OP sender is starting to fail, or has been intermittent (not working formerly, now working)?
