I just returned from a ride on my 2004 Breva 750cc.

Pulling into the garage the bike's ambient air temp reading was 98 degrees F (37 C) here in Longmont CO.

Within a minute or two I stuck the probe of my wife's candy thermometer into the crankcase into the pool of hot oil
(don't tell her). After 2-3 minutes (slow probe) the dial registered 210 degrees F (99 C).

I thought the V7's crankcase oil would be a lot hotter!

Comments? Other findings?

Geezer,
You didn't say what your ride was like. A 90 mph redline race against the police? Or a sedate roll to the corner pub and back? Joe

Sorry, I was riding two hours to/from Estes Park (mountains) but the last 45 minutes was at highway speeds (60-70) with air temp in the high 90s the whole way.

Anyone else with a candy thermometer (they read up top 400 degrees F) want to supply some data too?

Geez

210F after 2-3 minutes rest may be normal. I know some riders get much higher temps when riding fast, but they use a dipstick thermometer that always in the oil sump, so they don't have to wait 2-3 minutes for a reading. And it's after really wringing the bike out.

With cylinder head temp (CHT) gauges I normally get 250-375F, but that's while I'm riding , at the hottest part of the engine.

Here in AZ mine with the extended sump/cooler (has venting through the sump)

This is Pre-fueling fix by the PC-V and O2 Optimizer which should help since my pipes turned blue (especially the left) in under 50 miles

Chris, did you get the PC-V mapped and installed? --> His answer is No.

Also/Unrelated, I am making a batch of the sump spacers to offer here soon (should be on the CNC as write), and I will be offering them in raw aluminum ($259.95) and black powder-coat to match the engine coating ($289.95), full kit which will include the bolts, gaskets and oil filter spacer. Proto shown below:
