Bought a v50 with small end rattle, easy fix says I! also find the piston & bore badly scored.
Cylinder is iron lined so will rebore IF I can source oversize piston & rings to suite.
I guess I'll have to do same to the good cylinder to maintain balance?

Any info appreciated, I'm uk based. Cheers.

Somethings been done to the barrel if it's iron...should be Niksil as far as I'm aware.
the treatment may be repairable but new pistons ????Teo lamers, motomecca ???
easiest way is to get a new matched set .I can probebly help you out via a freind if your stuck but the postage will be from France.

Thanks for reply Chris, haven't tried Teo yet, dunno why I still think local to source stuff.
yes the early v50's were lined bores, they shifted to nicosil on the ali bore to get rid of more heat, ok 'till it wears out then gets expensive to recoat, perhaps the old ways were better - if Guzzi made oversize blah blah.
no objection to french pistons if you've a contact, my old 2cv went to 12000mls with solid thrashing (only way to get anywhere)
before the the floor rotted away!
I suspect the bore wear is from the rubber air filter housing rotting, then getting covered in breather oil, then grit, which gets sucked in the carbs.

Well I finally got a decent barrel from ebay, new small end Teo L. but nowhere can I source a new gudgeon pin so still have unacceptable rattle. A lot of v50's will need them soon, any new source? or different bike running same size?

same story for big end shells, no longer available.

Another good german contact who specialises in small blocs is www.Guzzipiu.de
If he or stein dinse can't help send me a pm and i'll see if barnabe can sort you out.He has a huge amount of stuff stowed away in the basement including new cranks ,heads etc as his gig is restauring older guzzi's
