Not to turn this into a KLR debate thread, but I too drank the Kool-aid and changed the tensioner. Most of the failures were due to improper maintenance (ie. not tightening it every 3000 km). Chain loosens up and snaps the spring and or tensioner. I changed mine at 30000km and it was still pristine and tight with plenty of adjustment left. What they fail to mention is the bikes out there with 100,000+ miles with no modifications and no issues....misery loves company I like to say. There are opinions about every potential bike flaw for every brand, but that is just what they are, opinions.
