Has anyone out there thought about how to convert the luggage rack into a backrest for the pillion (without the obvious of installing a topcase?) Seems like (2) 90 degree brackets would work, but I'm no engineer.

I think you could be right, a couple of sturdy 90 degree brackets would work. It may be a struggle getting it to look tidy though ? Or perhaps a bracket with a colapseable hinge that converts between both settings ?

That would be the ultimate in cool. I'm a taker for a pair if you/someone more creative than myself produces it.

Hmmm, I'm off on holiday on Wednesday so plenty of thinking time . No excuse not to come up with something as I'm a Design Engineer, although to be fair electrical, anyone want a substation :D

I am a fabrication engineer with my own workshop and over the winter months ( time allowed) will be fabricating a backrest & engine crash bars.Thats the plan anyway.

I'm a taker for the backrest hinge system described above. Please keep me in mind.

Here's what I've done for a touring rack. Seems to work well as a back rest. The rear rack on the Breva and Stelvio are the same, so this prototype I designed would work on a Stelvio as well. Pierre at Motion Motor Sports fabricated it for me. It's worked well on the road to 3 rallies this year. It needs additional holes, some holes eliminated, a finish and maybe a removable pad for a passenger.

Not to jack this tread, but my brother wiped out a substation near Stockton, California when turning a semi truck around. It seems he backed into a transformer, and the entire area suddenly went dark. He just kept on going and got the heck out of the area. The truck had only a small scorch mark on it. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Has anyone successfully fabricated their own backrest or found one commercially?

The Corbin backrest looks great but I don't need the seat that comes with it!

Thanks,
Tom
