PC-V'ed Norge Fuel Mileage

I just returned from a 3,400 mile trip and I have now accumulated 15,000+ miles on the Norge since I replaced the ECU along with the Todd's Dynojet Power Commander and Autotune. My major concern was the fuel mileage since most of the people that I usually ride with can go 300+ miles between fill-ups. As well, fuel stops on this trip were somewhat sparse. I am pleased to report that the Norge averaged 45.6 MPG over 3,400 miles. I just drove normally with no particular thought given to maximizing mileage. This allowed the Norge to cover 260 miles at one point before fueling. This is entirely acceptable. The elevation varied from sea-level to 11,000 feet and the temperature ranged from 49F to 101F. Speeds ranged from 45MPH through Yellowstone to 110MPH through parts of Idaho and Montana.
One member of our group was riding a 2009 KTM 990 Adventure. His mileage and fuel capacity was consistently getting the group into trouble; twice having to stop and 'steal' gas from one of the BMW GS1200A's. The BMW R1200RT in our group was getting 47MPG, the BMW GS1200's were getting almost 42MPG, and the Victory Cross Road was getting 45MPG. We met several riders on this trip with Kawasaki Concours 14's and Yamaha FJR1300's. Their reported mileages were significantly less with one 'hot-rodder' claiming he was only getting 27MPG on his brand new Concours. Considering the speed at which he passed us on the Bear Tooth pass going to Yellowstone, I can believe it.

Re: Norge Fuel Mileage

Great report Steve. I just installed the ECU/PC-V/Autotune on my Stelvio and will be monitoring fuel mileage as well. Good to hear your Norge is getting fine mileage.

Re: Norge Fuel Mileage

Glad to hear that. I am currently getting around 55mpg on the 1200 sport and liking it! One of my concerns about the PCV ECU change has been mileage, so if I can still get 250 miles to a tank I won't consider that a con to the change.. now just to see if i can find the money...

Excellent Steven, and thanks. Too often no one posts information like that here, and it leads to rumors like "fuel consumption goes down to the high 20's after installing Todd's stuff" - as quoted from someone at M.I.

Just finished completing the PCV/AT treatment to my Norge, so I'll be adding my mileage report probably a few weeks down the road. Absolutely no doubt that for performance the GT-RX ECU was a big improvement over stock esp in midrange, & the PCV/AT a further big improvement, esp at higher RPMS, at least on my Norge. Where/how much benefit you get will of course depend on the particular manufacturing tolerences of your particular Guzzi, & mods if any (none on mine).

Low 40's here with the full boat including intake and exhaust mods when I do it the old fashion way, miles divided by gallons on board computer says 37-39 tops. If your holding out because of fear of fuel mileage suffering then don't ! It's an amazing transformation.

Thanks Dan(!) - as this is the most important part!

OK, run back & forth Angeles Crest from end to end a few times since change to full boat GTRX-ECU/PCV/Autotune & calced gas mileage on a couple tanks worth. Getting low 40's MPG. At most 2-3 mpg lower than before-despite probably twisting throttle more cause it's so very much more responsive pretty much everywhere compared to stock. Also obviously less heat coming off the motor. So very, very worth it.

Todd once I have my last bits installed and check fuel mileage rest assured that I will be calling/emailing the person @ MI that told me that and making sure they know the truth......

Dan

Since installing the PCV/AT, my Norge has been pretty constant at 6.2 L/100km (41.8 MPG). This is mainly moderately aggressive country riding through hills. A slight drop from the stock set-up but the other benefits are well worth it.

Cheers
