I was using my 1100 sport for work and had noticed that the fuel consumption was very low so one day when petrol started pissing out of the K&N I thought as I'd had the bike 12 years and I was very sure the bloke who had it before me had done nothing to it now was a good time to strip and rebuild the carbs with all new gaskets, rubber bits etc.

As with all good intentions I got delayed and have only just put it all back together now that work has dropped to 3 days a week.

The first problem I had was that the lighter slide springs that I put in when I bought the bike were no longer strong enough to keep the slides down when throttling off, which took a while to find.

The big issue now is with the pumps, as part of the referb I fitted new diaphragms and gaskets and took out the adjustment screws as part of the clean.

If I have the adjustment screw too far out the carbs leak petrol from the holes under the air intake (which was the initial problem I noticed, altho' I hadn't touched the adjustment screw) and I'm having problems setting it correctly for a smooth start.
There is a bit of wear on the lower part of the slides but I wouldn't have thought enough to affect the initial throttle response.
It's fine once its rolling but I wondered if there's a correct way of setting these up or if it's just trial and error?

Any thoughts welcome.

Do a web search for the Dellorto manual. Several are found. The manual on This Old Tractor covers the pump system. No specific settings are provided and function of the pump is determined by the ramp on the slide. Basically, once the screw is set at the factory, I advise people not to mess with it so you will need to do the procedure in the manual to get it back to optimum functionality.

Thanks John (and Todd, I see there's a Dellorto manual loaded), as you say no specific settings just how to equalise the volume of fuel pumped.
If it hadn't started to leak I would have left well alone, I'm not complaining it lasted 29 years.
The fact that there's no set up leads me to thinking that as long as the pumped volumes are equal I can disregard the AP's as a problem.
Time to look elsewhere.
