Well Frank’s back on the road, thanks to Peter for welding my fork. After trying a few different spark plugs I noticed one cylinder was always much richer. Upon further investigation, the only difference is the throttle slides. The left/rich cylinder is a 60/5 and the right a 60/1. I think there are spares around somewhere, because my dad said he bought the carbs new and I doubt they would come with different slides. Unfortunately I couldn’t find them, so I’m looking into replacements. Another thing I noticed is that each slide has a good indent where the idle speed screw contacts the ramp. Is that something to be concerned with or is that normal wear from adjusting idle speed? My thought was to buy a new 60/1 slide to match the other side, I already measured and they are the “new” style with ~6mm ramps. I’m just worried that one new slide will make setting the idle harder since the screws won’t adjust evenly, not really a huge concern but MGcycle has 60/3 slides available so I could replace both. Any thoughts? I’ll attach pics.

That indent is caused by just screwing in the idle speed screw. The correct technique is to raise the slide, then turn the screw in. Turn the screw out to achieve idle sync. New slides are available. Contact Todd using the contact tab in the store. If he can't get them contact me for additional sources. BTW, 60/3 are the most commonly used.

Thanks John, I’m thinking I’ll swap the slides so that I’m using the ramps with no indent. It will be some time before new slide/s arrive so for now swap sides and drop the needle one notch on the cylinder with the 60/5 slide. Hopefully that will work well until I can run matching slides. Anyway, I can see the 60/5 will make the accelerator pump come on sooner and the ramp is much less steep, so I’m wondering if I jetted the carbs properly for 60/5s if it would help eliminate some low rpm bog and the overall transition quality. I imagine a 60/3 is somewhere in between what I have. Not sure how I ended up with two extremes and why I can’t find spares..
