PICS! Designed/built my own license plate bracket for $2.50

So I wanted to move my license plate bracket from where it was. I thought it was disrupting the design flow of the bike. Plus, this was a first step in possibly removing the rear plastic and subframe. The rear brake mounting bolts looked like a good spot for it, so I bought a 1/16" x 1" x 3' strip of aluminum and started bending. I only used about half of it and I already had plenty of electrical wire, so all in, this bracket cost me about $2.50. I formed one bracket piece and then just made an exact duplicate, mounted them in place, bolted on the plate, ran the wiring (two of the mounting bolts have LEDs in them for illumination) for the LEDs down under the swing arm and up under the seat (beside the airbox), soldered in some spade connectors, and it was finished.

Most if not all states require illumination of the license plate. So will you be adding a light?

Re: PICS! Designed/built my own license plate bracket for $2

that looks great but over here I'm not sure if I can hang plates vertical but it makes the rear look very sharp, especially with your new indicators on order!

That looks great man. Let me know if you ever get a ticket for it. You're probably in the clear though. My brother rode for years without illumination and the same sort of mount and no problems. Thanks for posting, just might do the same!

Thanks slick. The pics don't do it justice. Remember though, mine DOES have illumination. Two of the license bolts have LEDs in them, and the wiring is run down under the swingarm, and back up under the seat to the tail light circuit. It's a very simple operation.
