Project Frankin-Guzzi - Lt. @ End of the Tunnel?

I'm interested in the heads up display.

Where did you get it from, what does it show?

The gadget freak in me wants one that shows speed and revs....

I did a lot of looking around before deciding on this radar detector / laser jammer / warning display set-up. I like the color code distinction between various radar bands and laser and the flash rate for radar signal strength. I used a Whistler Crusader on my other bike and the heads up display was similar, though much more basic. Still, it's not obtrusive but gets your attention when necessary.

Geodoc,

Beautiful job on your project! Could you tell me more about the work you've had done on the heads? Sounds like you had them machined to accept larger valves? Thanks, AL

Now that is inspiring. Wow. I've never tackled a project like that before, but I'm about to. Where did you start?

geodoc you do beautiful work. I'm currently working on a mildly cafe'ed lemans 3. I was planning on having fairing mounts welded up but I noticed you have fabricated yours out of aluminum. What are those cool rivets your using? They look a lot more permanent than pop rivets. Also it looks like you used the gas tank mount bolts on the steering tube to mount your support to. Were you able to avoid welding tabs to the frame? (I'd like the option to return my bike to stock by using all bolt on modifications)
Thanks.

Heh Crafty,

The rivets are solid "AD" rivets commonly used in airplane sheet metal structures. I'm a crappy welder so going that route was out. Besides, a riveted aluminum structure can be made from stronger & thinner material than what you would use for one that was to be welded together. I used to repair wrecked airplanes and so got the experience there as well as the tools. You can get all that stuff from Aircraft Spruce:

I ended up using the existing tabs on the frame for various mounting points rather than making new ones except for the wire terminal blocks under then tank and forward seat mount tabs.

Heh Al,

The heads are off a Convert. They went to Mike Rich to get "mid-valved" to basically a LM1 spec. He machines out the combustion chambers to allow larger valve seats. Valves are Black Diamond as are the springs with titanium collars. The ports were his "stage 2" treatment, removing material only. The "stage 3" involves also adding some.

It started out as an 850T frame with a 1000SP engine and gearbox:

The inspiration came from Manel Segarra's race bikes:
