Puzzling ignition timing problems V65

I have a very puzzling problem with a V65 GT with electronic ignition.

Originally, one side was not advancing, so I changed both modules under the seat, but after fitting, I was getting about 5 degrees difference Between left and right cylinders. I assumed that it was the motoplat sensor module, so I bought a new one. This gave no improvement. Mechanically (visually) the sensors seem to alighn with the wiper at the same ange on each side. i.e. phsically the ange between cylinders seems OK. However, if I swap modules, the error stays with that cylinder. This completely baffles me. I have rewired directly to the coils, and have tried capacitors from 12v supply on modules to earth. Have also re-run earth cables

I have spent many hours on this, and bought 2 modules, one sensor,2 coils,plug-caps. I'm getting close to dispair.
I must be doing something wrong.. any thoughts!

Othewise, the bike is in very good condition... I would be great to get it running properly.

I just brainstormed this with an electronic engineer, who said it defied logic.
However, what I had done was to remove the altenator stator so that I could put a timing disc on. The rotaing alternator rotor is only about 30mm from one of the pickups on the motoplat module. The stator must shield the magnetism of the rorating magnet of the alernator rotor.

I refitted the stator, and re-tested using the marks on the flywheel. !!!! it worked! .. well sort of
What I find is that both sides are now doing the same thing - advancing from about 10 degrees to about 33 degrees, except at very high revs it jumps to almost 40 degrees sporadically, and at extremely low tickover it jumps close to TDC.
Since I never go to very high revs, I think I'll just put it all back, and put it down to experience, and get on with life!

One might have expected the designers of the engine to align the motoplat pickups at equi-distance from the altenator. they could have done this rotating this, and the rotor, by about 90 degrees.

I would be interested to know if any of you have expriene of this ignition system. It seems a bit tempremental to me. quite jumpy across the rev range. is that normal?

Make sure the earths to the 'splatt boxes are dead on -someone somewhere also suggested that they run much better with low/no resistance spark caps ...mine went tits up after a lot of messing around so I junked it and have had no problems since !
