Hello all. I seem to be rather attracted to the V7 and quite fancy a Stone, or possibly one of the "scrambler" conversions from Corsa Italiana. I would like to get some opinions from long term owners who have this as an only bike. This will be my only mode of transport and will be used for the daily commute year round. Therefore reliability (starting on a rainy January morning) is absolutely essential for me.

I have spent a few days reading on various fora; and it would appear the 750 engine is pretty reliable and the bike certainly has a lot of charm. I currently have a Triumph Tiger, which has been utterly reliable, but seems to lack excitement. I know the Guzzi has less power, but most of what the Tiger has doesn't get used and I much prefer grunt over top end power.

I would also like to know if the bike has a built in immobiliser, or any security features. Finally, with regards to dealers. Can I expect a courtesy bike during routine servicing, or a warranty repair? I do know that with Triumph, they are keen to keep you on the road and are quite free with providing alternative transport if required.

Thanks. :)

I'll answer what I can. I've only had the bike two weeks.

No immobilizer or security features of any sort other than a locking fork.

I came off a Triumph Street Triple R. The only time I miss it is if I'm already doing 80 MPH and want more. The V7 will give more, but it takes some time.

I ride daily. I commute to work. It's been real hot here so I can't comment on a chilly morning start. It is a bit cold blooded, but once it warms up a bit, it's fine.

Sounds like you had a Triumph dealer that provided excellent service. I would ask the Moto Guzzi dealers in your area what they can do for you.

Can't help you regarding all year round reliability as I don't use my V7 Classic in winter, however as a Corsa Italiana customer I can thoroughly recommend them. Re the loaner, just ask them, they're a friendly bunch......even Baldrick, once you get to know him!

In the past people reported hard starting for cold bikes, but the new engine/ECU should have improved this.
No fancy security system, but at least replacement keys can be made at your local hardware store.

This is Guzzi's longest running engine and frame, so the bugs have been worked out. However...people have reported problems here and there. No brand is without troubles. If you're buying new, go to a dealer with a good reputation for Guzzi, so you'll get true, knowledgeable support. Overall the bike is good and reliable.

That's a difference from Triumph, where dealer support is easier to get. Guzzi riders have to be okay with riding a smaller, less common brand.
