My California EV has been in my garage for the last 3 years :S . I do have to check and repaire the ecu. As this is an expensive excersize I want to do this myself. Anyone out there who could help me with info on how to do this? I know about Jefferies MyECU. But this is still a bit too expensive.

Re: re-programming and maintaining the original ecu californ

Why has it been in the garage 3 years? Which ECU do you have? With what you posted there isn't much to go on.

Re: re-programming and maintaining the original ecu californ

Cliff Jeffries MyECU is as cheap as chips when compared to the original .ecu unit. I would suggest going down that road if you know yours is kaput. You can get it as a kit or fully assembled. What is wrong with your original unit?

As John above asks, what year? Is it the large P8 ECU with an EPROM, or the '99+ small ECU under the left side cover?
P8's are available occasionally on eBay. You can use one from a Ducati or Fiat, and swap the EPROM. The 15M ECU is pretty bullet-proof, so any running issues (unless the ECU was truly abused), is not your problem. I have a OEM 15M ECU that I can sell you if you conclude it is. Swapping one with a known good ECU is about the only easy answer. If the bike has sat for ~3 years; drain the fuel, replace the fuel filter, and if the fuel pump isn't frozen and the injectors aren't clogged, it will fire.
