Has anyone replaced the rear spring only? When riding two up loaded with luggage, the spring can't quiet handle it. Nothing like being mid corner and not being able to shift because the shifter is grinding the pavement.

Yes done that, the standard spring I was told is a 100 newton spring.
We bought the bike primarily for holidays / long distance touring 2 up.
Fully loaded (3 x givi 45 litre hard panniers & mg tank bag) with the two of us on board there was a terrible weave over 105 mph (autobahns etc where allowed) and forget cornering at speed, too unpredictable to be safe.
We finally lost patience at the end of last year when we hit a pot hole on a corner (not at silly speeds) and nearly stuffed it.
I sent the whole shock off to a suspension specialist I have used before, told him the approx. max weight of us and the luggage and he changed the spring to a 140 newton spring.
We went touring in wales earlier in the year and the improvement was almost unbelievable. I'm just cross I didn't do it sooner.
A new shock is circa £750, including postage I spent under £100.
I'm sure there are better shox than the stock Fuchs but £ for £ I'm very happy.
If you're in the UK call Mark at MH Racing. http://www.mhracing.com

I emailed a place near me called Traxxion Dynamics. I asked if they had a heavier spring that would fit. They said yes, they have a 700 and a 750lb/in, and it was in stock.

I took off the shock and took it to them to have them put it on. Turns out that the salesman, and reality, aren't the same.

But they did have a 1000lb/in spring. I didn't want to go THAT much, but looking at the destroyed bumper on my shock, I wasn't sure that a 750 was enough. So I had them put on the 1000, and they revalved it for that spring. I spent all day yesterday on it riding two up, and for two up, it is just great. No more grinding the sides of my boots in the pavement in turns. Now I need to spend some solo time on it to see how it works. I'm afraid it will be too stiff for rough gravel and such.

They can order the 800lb/in Ohlins spring for me if I want to go that route. I may go do that. I'll know more in a couple weeks of riding.
So if anyone wants to get a heavier spring, they can get the 800lb/in Ohlins (or a 1000) and install it.

BTW, I've had a Traxxion Dynamics shock sock on mine since almost new. Good idea to keep the mud out of the shock.

Traxxion is good. I have an open account with them myself. Mind me asking what the total was for the re-valve and spring?

I am guessing you got Martin to do your shock, Is he up and around yet after the broken leg? The issue with the spring is the od thing I aluded to in an earlier post. I have found a few springs that look promising one at about 918lbs and one at 857lb. that may fit . they technically are not 60mmid springs but should work. and should fit a penske body, as well as the sachs.

by the way nice improvement huh?

Martin has the build sheet for the front end ak-20 cartridge build from my bike, that really really cleaned up the front end. actually having some rebound control is nice. Their cart. conv does leave the fork legs 4mm shorter but you never notice (esp after the re-spring in the front to get the sag correct)
