Hi guys. I just bought a center stand on Ebay and installed it yesterday only to remove it because the rear tire was too wide and would not clear. The rear is a Metzler in the recommended 140 80 17 size. I found Martin's tire guide which mentioned that some rear tires were too wide even in the recommended size and listed several tires that do fit, but it seems most of these tire models have been replaced with newer ones and in some case the sizes offered have changed slightly. I need new tires front and rear. I also want to be able to use the center stand. Any words of wisdom? Thanks Steve

The Michelin Pilot Activ and the Avon am26 show promise. Any comments? The M brand tire is only available in a 70 series which is not that big a deal but id rather not loose rear ride height. The Avon is listed in the recommended 140 80 17 size but I am more interested in clearing the swingarm and centerstand. I suppose I could go with a 130 series tire if i had to, preferably a 130 90, but the taller tires are currently unfashionable, it seems.

Did you get the correct center stand? From the tire size it sounds like you have the old style round tube swing arm. I'd recommend the center stand for the 2003 and newer (rectangular section swing arm) as the feet are wider apart, also the newer stand is less likely to drag in left hand turns.

I think you hit the nail on the head John. I am a Guzzi newbie. I was under the impression that the Tonti frames had one of two centerstands. I was under the impression that the earlier short wheelbase bikes used a stand that had a crossbrace that could run into the rear tire if used on the longer newer bikes. I have a stand made for the longer wheelbase bike but it came of an 84ish bike and mine is an 03. I think the stand could be made to work with a little grinding in the foot area and or a little spreading. You say the earlier stand has ground clearance issues John?

Hi,
My rear tyre just misses the center stand but has been rubbing on the wiring to the rear lights inside of the rear mudguard - just another reason to make sure the rear tyre is not too wide.

John.

Yes, the early EV stands have a large arm that would diminish ground clearance. The 84 stand is narrower. Bite the bullet and get the 2003 stand. It is much better that all the others. Your bike should have come with a stand installed if it is a 2003 EV, if something else with the rectangular section swing arm, it may not have.
