Just wandering, for those who tour, is there an breakdown recovery service for bikes, like RACV(Q etc) that we can subscribe to? I'm touring in much smaller groups these days and there is a lot less mechanical knowledge on hand for breakdowns.

RACV does have recovery, but they don't take you home, only to their nearest depot. A friend had a flat tyre 80km from Melbourne and ended up 130km from Melbourne when he used RACV.

If there are none, has anyone had any experience? I need to store a number in my phone, and as they say, word of mouth is the best publicity.

thanks

Robert

To get full recovery you need to buy the top cover from RACV that covers the individual, not the vehicle. Otherwise, Motorcycling Australia have a nationwide recovery service, will still only get you to the nearest depot but they're cycle-friendly. Might mean you can get the puncture repaired on the spot instead of halfway to nowhere. Mind you, I recently had to try and use RACV recovery whilst in rural France; character-building is the term I think.

Peter,

I've already checked the Motorcycling Australia website and I understand it's a 10% discount from a private service. I'm happy to be corrected here.

I used to have the RACV cover but I canceled it when they refused to collect my undamaged bike when I was hurt in the Ottways.
In the event of an accident, my normal insurance will cover me.

Rural France! Leave the bike, find a farmhouse and sample his vino!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for your input

Robert
