Todd I'm not up on all this computer map stuff so if this turns out to be a foolish question don't laugh too hard at me.

The 1400 has 3 different maps is it possible to take the Piaggio (Rain) map and set it up for best fuel economy rather than performance but keep the Touring & Velocete modes like they are? I was thinking it would be cool to get on the interstate where the speed is steady and flip the map to "Economy" mode and pick up a few extra miles per tank.

I just got a 2015 Victory Gunner 1746cc and it sure is no Guzzi but I do like the 45 to 50 mpg. The best I can get on the 1400 is 35 mpg and I would love to see 40.

All that being said I do tend to run the 1400 way harder than the Gunner so the comparison is faulty logic but I can dream can't I?

No worries, I didn't know what they were doing until early last year with the 1400. All that is done, is an adjustment of torque to the rear wheel for each of the maps. There is no/zero fueling differences, which makes sense from an emissions stand point. I haven't put any real long distance miles on my modded 1400 yet (nor has anyone who has rented it either), but I suspect that it will daily see 40 once it gets some miles on it. Remember Guzzis take about 10k to break in fully. Also, the Vic turns way less revs at speed, so that helps immensely for MPGs. Hope that helps.

I'm blown away by that. So the traction control settings do what?

You are so right about the Victory at 65mph in 6th it turns 2500 rpm. I had a 55 Chevy with a worked small block that used to idle at 1500 rpm.

I'm at the 14,000 mile mark so she is pretty broke in by now.

On your 1400 what mods have you done and have you checked mileage?

Thanks for the replies

As I wrote, each of the "maps" are just power/traction control limitations to the rear wheel.

Mods wise; An open-lid air box w/BMC filter, full fueling mods and my GT-Rx® new crack-proof H-pipe & Megs.

Doesn't the 1400 use a ride by wire throttle?
If so I would have thought the different settings were merely different RBW throttle sensitivity settings like is often done with other brands. That, along with different traction control settings.
Some of the Aprilia XV motors use an ECU that can be set up to offer different fuel maps.

Just returned from a 3,300 mile trip on my 1400 with no mods. The mileage calculations on the bike are a bit pessimistic but only by a couple mpg and not consistent. Sometimes right on. I ran between 39 and 42 mpg depending on the roads with highway cruising at about 74 mph set on the cruise being the worst. For reference the trip was from NE Ohio to the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia so quite a variety of roads.

Hi Everyone,

Adding the the mpg thread. Took the 1400 out over 4th of July weekend. LA to Eastern Sierra and back via Central Valley. Fueled up in Mojave, kicked back and let the cruise control take me to Bishop at 65mph - touring mode. In Bishop about 175 miles from Mojave I filled the tank and she only took 3.5 gallons, so 50 mpg.

Of course while coming home I was coming down I-5 cruising at 100mph with 100 degree heat and the cruise control on - got my first Guzzi hickie, so time for some Chippewas
