Riding across America on a pig in a poke

Today I picked up a 1200 Sport I bought a month ago sight unseen in Florida to do some touring in the USA and Canada. Unfortunately, despite assurances that the bike was straight, the front forks are bent. I remember seeing a set on Ebay a month ago or so, but a quick search has show up nothing. Does anyone know of a set in the USA. Its a good excuse to ride to wherever they are. I'm currently in Georgia, heading north west.

Regards,
Mark.

Well, I just pecked out a lengthy -- tho probably no more helpful than this  -- reply, but the #$%&^% site said I wasn't logged in when I replied. Grrrr.

Anyway ... what I more or less said earlier was that ...

Georgia is a big place. You going to be anywhere near Dahlonega? Riders Hill is a very responsive dealership and cheerfully helps folks "on the road."

NW is a big direction. But, MPH Cycles in Houston might be worth a reroute plan as the Havens are aces who also help folks on a bike in a bind.

Either of those places do enough business that they may have or know of forks on a low-sided Sport that is economically repairable.

Best wishes. Let us know how this turns out.

Bill

P.S. You MAY have recourse if sold a POS via deception.

Are you sure the forks are bent? What are your symptoms? It would take a pretty serious hit. One's I've seen damaged take out the frame (steering head area) before the forks bend.

Yeah, the forks are bent, the frame may be as well, who knows. But the bike runs true, does veer, and stops in a straight line. I'm happy to ride it as it is, until I can fix it, cheap like. It may well get me around the world as is, my latest thought bubble is to keep on riding west through Russia, and then south east until I reach home. It will owe me nothing then.
Regards,
Mark.

Mark, sorry to hear of your troubles. Care to post the details of your purchase?

The set on eBay has been sold (not to me), and had some damage as well.

I just sent you an e-mail.

Well, FGS, I felt pretty stupid when I saw that you were in THAT Georgia, but, now that I've reread the title of your post -- Riding across America on a pig in a poke -- and your statement that you bought it Florida, and all of those posted in the last few days, I felt better ... but, quite frankly remain confused about it all.

Best wishes wherever you are,

Bill

Thanks Rafael, I'm onto it.
I finally found some twisties along side the Little River Falls in Alabama, and then Hwy 56 in Tennessee to see what gives, and I'm confident it will get me safely to wherever I'm going until I get it fixed.
Regards,
Mark.

Hi folks,
just a quick update on my cocked eyed bandy legged goose I rode across the USA.
I finally arrived in Seattle a bit frazzled and worn around the edges after getting caught in snow in Oregon, talk about an idiot abroad. I even managed to drop the bike in the McDonald's car park in Walla Walla. An old cold and bald ( that sounds like me ) front tyre and smooth concrete don't mix. Dropping it was embarrassing enough, but then I had to wait for help to pick it up, I think I'm getting too old for this caper.
But all ended well in Seattle. I checked out the local Moto Guzzi dealer, Moto International, and yes they were happy to store the bike for a couple of months while I return home and mow the lawn and chop some firewood for winter. They even had a rigididge 1200 Sport fork that had been sitting on their shelf for a couple of years which they sold to me for a bargain basement price of $200. I will fit this when I return in June, and hopefully I will have a straight bike ready for a quick jaunt up to Alaska.
Cheers,
Mark.
