Cruisin' Guzzisti
I wanted to get my replacement Skidmarx rear tire hugger installed before the National in Elkader but I ordered the wrong length bolts. I ordered M6x10mm instead of M6x15mm for two side mount bolts. Some of you may remember my original Skidmarx came loose at the front mounting bolt and tried it's best to wrap itself around the rear wheel. It made a very effective brake.
Today the correct M6x15mm stainless "race spec" flanged bolts came in from Pro Bolt. This time the installation was made much easier by having the big G on the Guzzi work stand and removing the Mini Me muffler. The 'race spec' rating at Pro Bolt means the heads are pre drilled for safety wire. I haven't safety wired anything in a very long time. After my first failed attempt I seemed to get the hang of it it again and all went well. In addition to the safety wire on all 3 mounting bolts, I used Locktite and an M6 lock nut on the front mount. The front bolt was long enough that the lock nut just fit. I know it's overkill but I sincerely don't want to have another issue with this item.
All the best,
Mark
