I'm about to do a service on my Breva 100, a task I've done many times.
I use Motul Oils, 7100 10w 60 for the engine and 75w 90 for the gearbox and shaft.
These are also what my dealer used when the bike was new.

I decided to read the manual to see what else I could play with while I'm there and noticed the stated oil for engine is 5w 40 and for the gearbox and shaft it's 85w 140.

Have I been using the wrong oils all these years or was an updated bulletin published in the early years.

I struggled to post this because it relates to oil and .......

Should I change back to OEM?

The manual is wrong (again). Use the 10W60 in the engine as you have been doing. Also don't put the amount of oil in the engine the manual calls for. If you do it will pump oil to the airbox. I only fill with about 3.5 liters which includes what I put in the oil filter before installing. Also 75W90 is fine for the gear box and CARC. The 85-140 is for the rear drives on small block bikes.

It's funny how I knew all that, but had brain fade. I've been racking the grey matter for days trying to recollect to no avail.
Today I will buy the oils, Saturday I play with the my toys.

I don't think the manual is wrong, it's just been superseded. Same as the EV hydraulic series which updated to 5W-40 after they were chewing up camshafts.

I was a technical writer for the US Army. When there was an error in a technical manual, a change was prepared and issued. I've never seen a motorcycle maker issue a change, just service bulletins that the owners don't get. I've noticed that the later Guzzi manuals just seem to repeat information for older bikes without being updated to the current model. I call it lazy technical writers.
