My dealership quoted me the following prices:
1st service 900miles: $500-$550
5000-mile service, $300-$400
10,000-mile service,$300-$400
15,000-mile service, $600-$800
20,000-mile service, $300-$400
I'm just curious about what others are paying.

Those seem about right.

Most shops are more than $100/hr.

Figure about 2-2.5 hours plus parts for minor service and 3-4.5 hours for major services plus parts.

This is the receipt to original owner of my V100 paid for the 900 mile service.

FWIW: I do all of my own service obviously being a retired motorcycle mechanic, however, in my opinion and experience, the first break in service SHOULD ALWAYS be performed by an authorized service center. It is cheap insurance to keep your factory warranty in force without any chance of being denied a warranty claim.

If my V100S had not been serviced yet, it would have gone down to Cadre Cycle for its break in service.

I agree!
I intend to take my motorcycle to the dealership for servicing just to keep it properly maintained and keep the warranty intact.
I just want to be sure that I'm not being overcharged in the process.
I understand that dealerships need to make a profit to remain in business, and I want to support my local dealership because dealerships are few and far between. There are only two dealerships in Virginia.

I applaude you Sir!

I wish more riders felt like you as people come here complaining about 500 miles to the nearest Moto Guzzi shop but they never would let a single dollar leave their pocket to the dealer who ended up folding due to losing money.

Just the PADS computer system, costs thousands of dollars to buy and about $1500+, I think in annual updates.

My dealership charges $115 per hour so that doesn't seem unreasonable.
People need to understand that dealerships and their staff have the same living expenses as the rest of us! They also need to understand that there are expenses involved after the sale especially if they intend to ride and keep their motorcycle in tip-top shape.
I say, don't buy if you're not able to maintain the motorcycle, and don't complain about the cost of ownership because that's all part of the deal.

I'm sure that there are other expenses as well. Being that the V100 is a new motorcycle and unlike older Guzzis that the mechanics require additional training and tools to work on these motorcycles.

You are preaching to the choir.

Before I retired and shut down my independent motorcycle shop, I had over $150,000 worth of equipment and general and specialized tools. In diagnostic computers and software I have over $25,000 and my annual software renewals were about $2000 per year.

It is expensive as hell to have the specialized equipment to properly maintain modern motorcycles. Many people do not realize this. They think motorcycles are “inexpensive” and nowadays they are not. A modern motorcycle can cost as much or more than an economy car.

I understand.
I consider myself fortunate to have a great dealership only 50 miles away and I intend to do my part to help them keep their doors open!
I appreciate you sharing all of this information!

Being in VA, if you haven’t got a post from Bill Hagan yet, you probably will.

Bill is TOP SHELF all the way and my favorite person in the world.

If he invites you to visit, take him up on it. You will not regret it.

I have heard from Bill Hagan, and he travels through my small town.
I plan on meeting him when he comes through, and after I get used to riding again I'd love to visit his part of the state if invited because it's very beautiful there.
He was very kind to invite me to ride along with him and take me to lunch when he travels through my town again. I'm quickly learning that Guzzi owners are very nice people!

Guzzi owners are very nice people!

They usually are but Bill is truly something very very special.

He epitomizes the saying from the Wizard of Oz where the Wizard tells the Tin Man that it isn’t how much you love with your heart but how much you are loved by others.

That’s Bill. He is truly loved by some incredible people and regular old me and I consider myself blessed to know him personally.

Well on that note, I look forward to making his acquaintance and having the honor of getting to know him personally too.

I live in VA but haven't had an invite or met Bill Hagan....should I feel dissed? :wasntme:😂

Anyway, my first service came within $2 of the invoice Scott posted. BTW the owner manual doesn't call for the oil in the final drive to be replaced until 15K which is dumb (IMHO) given the nature of that part. I asked for it to be done @ 900 miles and this was included in the price paid. The service writer said the final drive oil change was on the first service list MG provided to dealers. Scott - was that itemized on your invoice? Just wondering.

1DaneDaddy - as you have noted elsewhere, we use the same dealer, I have found them to be fair. I also use them for the major stuff on my now out of warranty 2020 Tiger 900 for work I'm not competent, confident or equipped to do myself and have generally been happy with the price and quality of work.

In general motorcycle owners whine about dealer service & prices a lot, occasionally it is justified, but we would be sunk without them, and they deserve our support IMO.

I agree with you on all points!
I'll also have the final drive oil changed during the first service, and at every other oil change because oil is inexpensive compared to having a final drive failure.
I'm happy with our dealership too, and I've dealt with a lot of them since 1976. They've been very polite, fair, understanding, and helpful with getting me back to riding after a 10-year layoff.

I should jump in here. I have complained in the past about my dealer and the missing saddlebags. I went to the dealership yesterday to check on my refund. It was going to be my last visit as I was pretty unhappy with them. I wasn't going to take my bike back for its first service. Anyway the manager greeted me by name and explained that the service/parts guy no longer worked there. His replacement was working to fix all the "issues" left behind. The service department is run out of the head store so he had no control over that department. So my faith in the company has been restored and I will take my bike in for its first service and request the final drive oil to be changed even if I have to pay extra for it.

I thought I had seen this and I found it. In the Service Manual, under SERVICE, are the times stipulated by Moto Guzzi for the services.

Dealer labor charges should normally conform closely to these times.
