Service Light Mystery

Don't get confused between RESET COUPON (getting rid of the spanner/wrench) and RESET SERVICE (with the red triangle). The latter you cannot do in the dashboard, you need PADS (dealer only) or some other software to achieve this.

The fact that yours disappeared was a convenient fluke; it may come back if you haven't addressed the fault.

So just an update to my SERVICE message and red triangle:

Today was the first time I started the bike up since the reset procedure explained earlier and both the SERVICE message and red triangle are still on the display. In hindsight, I don't think they ever disappeared (maybe just the SERVICE).

The bike is off on the fueling a bit and the revs at idle are higher than normal, especially if I'm in gear and clutched in.

Looks like a dealer visit is forthcoming ...

If it wasn't one of these fancy computer bikes I'd think you have a vacuum leak, Guzzi Lou.

As an update for others my issue was the clutch switch. The part is on order but I was able to get the bike operating properly by pulling the clutch switch "nib" out with my fingers (after squeezing the clutch lever to expose the nib) and cleaning the beige colored gasket & nib with a rag sprayed with WD40.

I sprayed a bit more WD40 on the nib afterwards and worked it in and out by squeezing & releasing the clutch lever.

Went for a 40 min ride afterwards and it was still AOK when I got back. I'm not sure how long it'll continue to work but I'll have the spare handy by that time.

Symptoms as I think I explained above were a SERVICE message with a red triangle on the display and fueling that was "off". The bike was idling higher than normal and would idle a bit lower (still a high idle) when in neutral with clutch lever released than it did in gear with lever squeezed. Whenever getting back on the throttle after a gear change, it'd be snatchy and not smooth at all (stock fueling is kind of like that anyway but more so than usual).

The SERVICE message and red triangle were still on but that may take a few starts to clear itself ... otherwise I'll try & clear it with the reset procedure # 34534 Kiwi_Dave refers to in another thread.

So I finally bought a new battery. Being a cheap basterd I went online and got the "Motocross" model for around 67 bux shipped. I was hoping it might be a white label clone from the Yuasa USA factory, since it's made in USA. No joy; This one is quite a bit narrower than the Yuasa, a tiny bit deeper (tighter fit) and the same height. It does the job so far. But FYI it does fit and it starts the bike, same specs.

Now I hopefully won't have weird codes and other electrical strangeness happening.

Update. I replaced the clutch switch (easy to do btw by just removing the front plastic covers to access the mass of wiring and pulling on the old one to trace it ... check the plug connection on the new one and you'll know what to look for in the wiring) and the Service message and triangle went away.

An odd observation though on the first ride is that my hanging high idle came back when at a light in neutral. I never once had it while the Service message was on. :wondering:
