I asked a question in another thread:

"On the SHAD website ( http://www.shadonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=D0B50KL )they show a brake light kit. Does anyone know if this will fit with the Moto Guzzi version of the SH50 top case?"

I received one of these for Christmas and finally got it put on and the answer to my question is YES! But, it does not fit perfectly. On my California, the 50L OEM top case mounts in such a way that the brake light needs to mount about 1/2" towards the rear of the bike due to the steel MG rack. That means that the holes in the plastic mounting plate do not line up. No problem, really. I drilled two new holes in the base plate for the mounting screws towards the outside and made an extension mounting bar out of a small piece of metal scrap I had.

The light is a brake light OR a running light, not both. I wired it as a brake light and am very happy with the additional light it throws out when the brake light is activated.

Thanks, Roadventure, for being our guinea pig. I like the idea of a third brake light and really hoped the Shad would be a perfect fit.

Based on your report, I went with Plan B: an AdMore Lighting LED light bar. Their bracket works the holes in the top case mounting plate. The light bar functions as a tail light and brake light and sequential turn signals.

The brake light modulates when you first hit the brakes, then goes solid. There is a video on AdMore's web site if you 're interested. Here's a photo of the light bar on my 1400:

Regarding the Shad brake light, I have just fitted it to my 1400 Touring.
I completely removed the centre mounting point on the light unit with a modelling knife, then lowered the light unit by fitting a couple of spacers and slightly longer bolts (original mounting points) in order to clear the chrome rack.
At this moment I have fitted a sponge block for damping purposes but may remove it or fit a piece that completely follows the curvature of the light.

Robert,

I like the alternate lights that some others have used, but am very happy with the SHAD light I installed. I would have liked it to fit perfectly, but discovered that MG put their own design into the MG top case, mounting plate and rack.

Here is how mine ended up.

That's a neat installation Dave, where did you tap into the wiring?
I will try and post a photo of mine but for some reason I can't upload the file.

I located the brake light wires under the seat on left side. The wire from the SHAD light is at the arrow. This picture doesn't show the tap, but it is just beyond where the arrow is pointing.

(did you notice that MG placed the cautionary stickers in exactly the wrong place on the frame tubes under the seat?)
