Hey guys,
Pardon my lack of knowledge - I'm not overly mechanically inclined. I couldn't really find a heck of a lot of information on this topic. I enjoy working on my V7 more and more - learning. This one thing has confused myself, manual is really no help. And nothing really on Youtube.

1 - how do I know it's at the proper level?
(I unscrewed the level check bolt and oil poured out, isn't supposed to be at bottom of bolt hole?)

2 - proper way to change the oil in the shaft drive - step by step if someone wouldn't mind (or if there's a link somewhere on here? - I couldn't locate for V7)

Ok, so to be pedantic it's the rear drive, not the shaft which is dry. To make matters worse Guzzi generally calls it the transmission and in turn calls the transmission the gear box.

Yes in THEORY the level plug could be used to check fluid level (not that there is generally any reason to check it if it's not leaking and you don't think it's getting a lot of water in it, which it shouldn't unless something is wrong).

But that said a number of Guzzi mechanics over the years have questioned if the rear level plugs are always accurate.

The best way to determine level is to measure it, either by measuring what is drained to see if what comes out is about capacity when it was filled to the level plug.

Or conversely measure out the replacement fluid into a separate container, then fill through the vent and see if that equals the level at the plug or at little more/less.

Mostly though if you don't have any leaks and you didn't see any contamination/moisture when you peeked in the level plug, then don't worry about it.
 
I mostly agree with Kev m. I never remove the "filler" cap. I go for a ride to let the rear drive get hot, then remove both the drain plug and the vent, let everything drain out overnight, replace the drain plug (using a new GU01528930 crush washer and tightening to 12 Nm), fill with 170 mL of AGIP GEAR MG SAE 85W-140 oil through the vent hole, then replace the vent, again using a new GU01528930 crush washer and tightening to 12 Nm. It's easiest to fill if you use a large syringe, but you can also use a small funnel if you're patient.
