Been meaning to post this for months, you know how it is what with riding, work and all.....

Thing is that the design of the pins on the side panels leaves a lot to be desired in the durability stakes, every time I took em off I had heart palpatations thinking that this would be the time that one would break and cost a motsa to fix or shock horror might be six months waiting for the slow boat fom Italy to arrive with the part on board..

So I devised a quick fix.

Firstly when removing the side panels I always am VERY careful, and put a finger behind the pin to ease it out of the grommet - like this.

And they really are a very weak design, but have a gap which with a bit of filling would make a nice solid base for the pin.

I filled the gap with some car bog.. the first one fell out as it didn't key into the plastic and paint, probably because there was some silicone wax in it from the last wax and polish (silicone must be long lasting stuff the last polish was months ago, or was it last year, hmmm can't remember it was so long ago). Some thin super glue was the fix - I use ZAP it really is the best around, just glued it back in.

Simple fix, and no more possibility of breaking it's tits off.

Mike,

Nice post. Looks like modification I will be performing. I'm assuming "car bog" is body filler. Please let us know if that is a correct assumption.

Yep, spot on the money. You know the stuff, it made up most of that car you had in shall we say "younger days" that made all the girls giggle.

One of the mods proposed ages ago on the 1st phpbb2 iteration if this forum ;)

Should the stuff used remain somewhat flexible?

As it happens, the side-pannels on the Yam YBL 125cc bike have exactly the same design. Kind of makes you wonder, doesn't it...

I suppose you could make it from something flexible - but really mate KISS is the go, just stick some bog in and Bob's your uncle all fixed up, half hour tops.

I have some Pattex stuff that makes a wonderful light and very strong cement when dried ... but have some feeling that too hard a filler might cause the plastic to fracture even quicker.

This is all very interesting, I did exactly the same with my Norge, but I used silicone rubber filler, as I had a tube to hand. Made one hell of a difference.
