Spada rear caliper alignment

Hi. I'm getting close to completeing my rebuild of an '81 Spada as a G5.
The rear caliper is completely rebuilt, seals, pads, pistons etc. But on bolting it on, though it slides over the disc easily, as the bolts holding it to the caliper mount are tightened, the disc binds.
It dosn't lock up, but becomes stiff to turn. I have done a visual check on the caliper alignment, as one would when shimming a front disc, but it looks right to me.
I am tempted to try running it and see if it will settle in. But I am worried about how hot it will get in the process. Any thoughts?
My guess is that the caliper mount may be slightly bent.
I have checked to see that the new pistons are properly seated, but as I said, Until the bolts are tightend to their last half a turn, its free enough.

If you have the pads fully retracted this is not good. Place a shim between the caliper and mount to prevent the binding. You said half a turn, so I'm guessing maybe a 0.25 to 0.50 inch shims might be enough.

If the pads are not fully retracted, the pads will center to the rotor on their own and not be a problem.
 
Thanks John. I've fiddled with it a bit more and took the two 0.5mm shims from one front caliper and tried those in it. Problem solved. :D

Now the question is, Is the front caliper OK, or do you need more shims for the front?
 
Certainly do. Unfortunately its the Stafford Classic Bike Show this weekend and my usual supplier is there rather than on the end of the phone at his business. It'll have to wait til Monday.
