I'm trying to make the OEM speedo work on the Breva ie 750 engined kit car. Since the sensor must be relocated to somewhere in the drive train I have been trying to discover what triggers the sensor. I found that sticking six magnets on the surface of a rubber drill pad at about same diameter as the rear bake disk mounting bolts and rotating the magnets near the sensor I can get the speedo to indicate. The speedo will only trigger by using magnets. So, my question is, "Are the brake disk mounting bolts magnetized?".

Sorry, I can not answer your question, but maybe you can - please - tell us more about "the Breva ie 750 engined kit car." Pictures too!

The bolts are not magnetized on the Breva. What is critical is the air gap between the sensor and the bolt heads. You will have to either use the same air gap, or mount magnets. I'd suggest talking to folks about the speedometer error on their bikes and compensating the diameter of the circle to compensate on your vehicle for the tire size used and the percentage error inherent in the Breva dash system.

Motogeezer: See my blog at pembletondaytona.blogspot.com. Getting the Breva ie 750 engine running has taken several months so far due to both electronic efi and engine mechanical problems. The combination of those problems has kept me from posting updates to my original blog post because I didn't want to fill any forums with a lot of failure information. As you can see I have the engine mounted and I feel I have the electronics issues sorted but the engine turned out to have numerous mechanical problems.

John: Thanks for clearing up the question I had concerning the speedo installation. The Citroen 2CV gearbox has a front wheel drive where the drive shafts attach at the gearbox with six bolts at about the same diameter as the rear brake disk on the Breva. That diameter is a little smaller though by only about 1/4". However, the front driven wheels are somewhat larger in diameter than the Breva's rear wheel so I am hoping the combination will get me close enough to an accurate speed indication. I'll monitor it with my Garmin GPS and make adjustments if needed.

I was able to connect the VDST and communicate with the ECU but I am at a loss as to what some of the readings are telling me. Of course the engine is not running well enough at this point for me to make any adjustments. The latest problem came about yesterday when the cylinder head temperature sender holder disintegrated. Another week's delay waiting for a new one from Harper's Moto Guzzi.

The ECU I was using had a paste over label over the original label that said Breva IAW 15RC.CA. I had to replace that ECU with another labeled IAW 15RC.CC to get the engine to run.
