Is is possible to "adjust" (calibrate) a circa 1991 Veglia speedometer at its head?

I replaced the transmission in my 1991 Cal III Big Valve with a transmission from a 2004 and now the speedometer reads about 133% of road speed. Same number of teeth on 2004 cable pinion gear as 1991; can't account for change in readings.

The 1991 and the 2004 have different rear drive ratios. To correct the problem, replace the speedometer output drive at the back of the transmission. Easier to do with the transmission out, put possible with it in. Be careful of the small washer at the base of the drive. The 1991 drive is part number 12 76 33 00 and the ring gear for it is 14 76 61 10, the pair may be ordered under 28 76 28 40. The units from the 2004 are only available as a matched pair with a part number of 28 76 25 40. I'm not sure if you will need to replace both parts. If so it will require removing the swing arm and special tools. I'd start by comparing the drive pieces (12 76 33 00 the one from the 2004 transmission) first. I think the 2004 one has one less tooth than the other.

John would this fix work on 03 EV and 03 Stone that had 733 rear ends put on and are now both reading about 10mph or more faster. I don't want to crab the frames to get to the trany if I don't have to, we installed the bicycle speedos and they are accurate, so I can live with the bikes the way they are, but it would be nice to have them working properly if possible and not a lot of work.
Thanks

You can change those parts without crabbing the frame. They can be changed with the transmission in place. You just have to remove the swing arm and maybe a few bits above the speedometer drive to gain access. You will need the guzzi special tools to get the job done in the confined space. Also be sure to not lose that little steel ball.
