Hello everyone,
With less than 5K on my 2003 Calfifornia Stone the odometer part of the speedo stopped working. The trip odometer part of of the speedo is also not functioning, but yet it still reads MPH with no problems. This tells me the cable is functioning OK. I investigated and I don't see an actual cable going into the speedo so I am assuming there must be a interface Analog to Digital off the tranny pickup. Am I assuming correctly that since the speedo is functioning w/ the MPH's that my speedo is NG do to the fact the mileage/odometer part of it is not working? Thanks.

Hi Paul, this is a black/grey faced ITI speedo, yes? They are notorious for having internal gear failures on the odo. Everything is plastic inside, and really not fixable. I even had one that the small illuminating bulbs fell out of the holder, and jammed into the gears.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... but I'd look for a replacement, preferably the older Veglia white-faced versions... while they are not great, are rebuildable. If you're really handy, Greg Field (and others) here posted a few how-to's on how to get them apart.

Well Thanks so much for the heads up. I will definetly look into your suggested options, Thanks again.

Yes there is a cable and no "electrickery". Look again for the cable, you will need to find it to disconnect. Also the trip reset is reverse threaded, turn it clockwise to remove.

Oh Yea!!!!! Now thats what I have been hoping for. Thank you, Thank you for sharing. That looks awesome!! Definetly going to look into gettin one of those setups for my California. Wow, thanks again.

I'm not sure who ripped off who in the name game....but, there is also the "Veypor" tach and speedo. I had one on my Centauro after both gauges went south. I liked it a lot, and am going to put one on my Jackal in the near future.

Wow, another great digital, reliable upgrade. Many thanks for sharing too. I called Palo Alto Speedometers today and asked what kind of gears are used in the rebuilding of my original Moto Guzzi Speedo, "probably plastic", ok thanks but, NO THANKS! Definetely seems that going aftermarket can lead to less stress in the long run with more reliability. Note for Guzzi: Get with it Dudes!

Rather than spend a lot I bought a Sigma BC-1009 bicycle "computer' via the internet. Cost about $31ppd. Installation not difficult. Can be calibrated to exact diameter of your bike's front wheel. Battery operated, lasts 2 years before replacement.

Functions include speedometer, odometer, trip meter, average speed, clock and a few others. I'm really pleased with mine.
