Premises:
I have a 2016 VII
Last time I serviced the bike was at 1600miles, not I am at 2600, probably due at 3000

100 miles ago I changed my tires, after getting a flat, for an aestetic reason, form default to scrambler Pirelli m60. not sure if it's the problem but is the only modification I did to my bike.

given these premises, lately, I noticed in the last 2-3- weeks a strange "squeak" sound that I thought it was the brakes pads... not I'm not sure anymore because the sound seems to happen whenever I downshift even from 10mph to 0 (quick / panic stop) even if I don't touch my brakes

I thought it was the tire, as it's knobby and may produce a different sound than before, but I'm not sure...

What else could it be? the transmission? something touching the tires?

Hard to diagnose over the net but some things you may want to try:

Look for rub marks on the rear tire.

Get the rear tire off the ground (center stand or jack) Rotate rear wheel & listen for noise.

Sit on the bike with engine off & get somebody to push you in a parking lot.

With engine off sit on bike & bounce it hard enough to compress rear shocks.

Do all that first.

Then squirt some WD40 on all rubber suspension parts and anything that moves.
Repeat test or ride.

Thanks!! I will try our ideas... at least I won't spend 400$ right away at my dealership...
