Well after submitting my claim for a replacement of the OEM exhaust in November ’09 I have given up waiting for a replacement. So have JSG (importers) who are offering people the stage one exhaust upgrade instead.

I’ve been resisting as I’ve always though I would want panniers. But after a few trips now I seem good with just my Andy Strapz A bag and I could always put on a top box if I had to.

I also didn’t want the highset exhaust in case my partner would burn her leg. But she rides her own and only ever gets on the back for 5min around town when we are taking bikes to mechanics etc.

I was worried about the airbox removal and no air filters. I know most people have added pod filters to the trumpets but apparently JSG is recommending keeping the airbox set up and saying it runs fine with the ECU upgrade that comes with the bike! One would guess that there would be some fueling difference between an airbox and open trumpets, guess not.

So that addresses most of my concerns, except for my neighbours hating me  but I’m told it’s not stupid loud but still a touch concerned about being pinged for a loud bike by the police or if it has “not legal for street use” stamped all over it.

But I do love how it looks and I would like a bit more noise.

Think I should go for it?

Isn't that setup like $2k USD?

I'm working on the Guzzitech exhaust, ECU reflash and airbox kit myself, likely quite a bit cheaper with results that will make me smile.

Mal, I'd grab it, if for nothing else, the exhaust. I'd bet it would run well with just that done. Sell off the air filter pods & stacks, or buy one of my CNC lids. The ECU, well, that's up to you.

Bisbonian... count on it.

Yup, jump on it. No need to use the velocity stacks and pods aren't brilliant. The stock airbox will flow enough air for it to run, and probably run better than with pods.

Pete Posting as Jon.

Thanks.

Currently I'm probably going to keep the airbox and get them to just install the exhaust sometime around the 12/7 (I've got a few road trips at the moment)

Apparently they think they can just re-flash the ECU with their AXION but.

1. Can that be done? They are a new Guzzi agent, brought the AXION at auction after the local bike shop that last had the Guzzi service agency went broke over new year. While they have been working on them for years and they have a few new Guzzi's in the shop and have been trained by JSG......... Basically I'm not confident the electronics will be done correctly and I can't really check what was done from the bike myself.
(you know all those horror stories you hear of people getting performance exhaust on their bikes and never having them run properly again - my stock Sport runs very nicely)

2. Getting another ECU is really the "carrot" making me go for the Stage 1 upgrade. It will allow me to change the bike back if I want (ok that's unlikely) as you can't "downgrade" maps with an AXION

3. And being a bit selfish if I've been offered a Stage 1 kit I want all the bits that come with it (part 978262) Also someone here, like Todd, may be able to use the ECU and perhaps I could get a bit of credit towards some nice Guzzitech bits :D
(attempting to talk the other 1/2 into the 750 exhaust. She might like the stock ones, but I keep staring at them when I'm following her and the Guzzitech ones would look and sound much better)

After 2 weeks, my verdict.

F-ing AWESOME  Really happy.

Was a bit loud the 1st few days, but I’ve gotten use to that (or gone deaf) Quite a big improvement and I was already happy with how she ran. Unfortunately I’ll probably never buy a bike without a full system again after experiencing the improvement.

Now I just need to get in touch with Todd to find out if he wants my ECU and get his airbox lid and filter. Possibly not needed as she runs fine with the OEM airbox minus the snorkel.
