My pals '06 G11 was due an MOT the other Saturday. Having not run it for a while he ran it up on the Friday before - all OK. Stopped it on the kill switch. Then found it wouldn't restart, just a solenoid like clicking. He figured maybe the battery was down so left it on charge overnight. The following morning the problem persisted. He checked the battery connections but these were good and tight. Then looked at the fuses - one blown. Swapped this with the spare and starting was resumed.

Down at the test centre (also a Guzzi dealership) he asked for a replacement fuse. Sold out. They report a spate of these kind of failures, due to the Bosch starter being a little flakey.

Has anyone else experience of this? Is it a weak point? Why would a 'dodgy' starter take out the fuse and then be alright again?

Maybe find a new dealer. Guzzi stopped using the Bosch starter around 1990. The standard starter is now the Valeo. Early Valeos did have some problems, but the newer ones aren't so bad. The starter gets it's power direct and un-fused from the battery. The problem is with the control circuit. I'd clean all the relay contacts and the connector for the solenoid on the starter. BTW, the fuses are standard and you can pick them up at any auto parts house.

Just as a matter of note, My Griso 11 is a few years old and has never blown a fuse. They are standard issue and should be available anywhere.
Miss Information is a very nice lady but she does get around.
