Hello fellow Guzzisti.
Really enjoying the 2012 Bellagio I acquired a couple of years ago.
clocked up about 20k so far .a handy day tripper as well as a long distance steed.
I'd be interested to know whether any one here in Aus. has fitted an external oil filter sump with sight glass
similar to the one in the Stein Dinse website part no 300017660.

the V.shaped pan is supposed to reduce cavitation under high revs.
also interested if the reduced clearance has been an issue.

JB, probably little to no one that has put this sump on a Bellagio, but many have put the "deep V sump" on their older California 1100 here in the US, and everyone seems to like all of the benefits. Unless you go off-road or have a tendency to jump curbs for fun, I think you'd be good.

Q1, If you have a deep V sump, & you lean over in a fast big sweeper, wouldn't it would fill "more" on the now flat side (assuming 45degree of course - a bit too far!) than a square sump that has suddenly become a V & will hold more in the V - or is this rubbish because the centrifugal force keep the oil at a "natural " level parallel with the bottom of whatever sump you had??
Q2 Is there, or has anyone used a "windage tray" as used in high performance car engines?

a pre-Australia day BBQ. [who needs an excuse for a day off]
and the panel offers the following after some interesting discussion ;
Using the theory of " billy tea, being swung around over head to settle the tea-leaves" .
you should be able to come to the answer to Q1.
as for Q2.They suggest you pose the question on the" Wild-Guzzi forum" for unrivalled expertise .
one of the guys there invented one way back in the 1970's and there are many posts there illuminating the advantages of said windage plate .
Realy liked the roads in NZ when we were there a few years back, the road engineers obviously built them with motor cycles in mind.

Yes I will follow up on the wind age tray, & have already seen one in these forum threads.
I agree our South Island is motorcycle heaven, even tho the coarse road chip eats tires, it's hard to beat the panoramic mountain views, fantastic roads winding around them and over high passes and then alongside lakes or the coast roads.
Drop us a ,line next time you are over.
 
I ended up ordering the V-shaped oilpan from Stein-Dinse in Germany .
filter out the front ,complete with oil sight glass.
Nice fit ,used a neoprene gasket from Real Gaskets over there in the US ,I also use them on the rocker covers and
like they are re-usable and are aviation quality.

I have opted to try a wind age tray ( a Pete Roper special) which I think has merit.
Quiet happy to inspect the internals when doing the oil change.
