I’ve learned to not keep too tight a grip over bumps but the forks seem very, very stiff. So stiff in fact it’s difficult to get them to move without a hitting a bump or pothole at speed.

I didn’t tear them down during my reconditioning of the bike but I did pump a lot of grease into them.

I removed the grease fittings and compressed the forks using ratcheting straps and a bit of grease came out of one side.

Any idea of what my expectation should be (i.e. are they supposed to be very, very stiff)?

1965?

Either you remove, clean and rebuild them or find somebody competent to do it for you.

This is a no brainer!

😆

It’s an expression. I meant that the internals and old grease will be like glue and sludge. They need to come apart and be cleaned and rebuilt to new condition. You will see massive improvement.

Rebuilding components of that age, is just a given necessity. A “no brainer”. 👌👍🙏
