I had a really weird issue this am. I got up early and wanted to go for a couple hour ride along the florida east coast. I was feeling amazing and was so happy my my 2003 ev. So about 20 mins in I look down and my speedo and tach are dead. I stopped let the bike cool and tach is back in business. speedo gone. I've been having issues with my bike leaking gearbox oil out the gearbox breather pipe I think the oil that I used is just not appropriate. I'm dumping the valvoline 80w90. I found a different brand oil ordered on amazon. Quicksilver motorcycle gear oil same weight. I'm feeling like there is some weird overpressure event happening in my gearbox. When I got the bike (8 months ago) the gearbox was tight as a drum, now it seems to be weeping oil. If anyone has and advice/experience please feel free to let me know. I've never used a forum before so please let me know if I'm posting incorrectly. Thanks, Friends.

First question is how much are you putting in it? Are you draining it hot with the bike level.
I assume it's still mechanical drive off the transmission, so unless the cable was routed wrong and it broke the speedo should work. As for the tach sometimes they lose the ground wire in the back.

thanks for the response yes I've followed the prescriber service manual steps. thanks for the ground tip. ive always wondered does bike level mean on or off the center stand. I'll tear down the bike a bit with my son and see where I'm at with the speedo.

Bike level usually means bike vertical with both wheels on the ground. I put a block under the side stand, never had any trouble but it's safer if you have a helper.

Great tip! Fortunately my son likes to help me and so we are learning together. Thanks!
Center stand is good for fill. Drain and only put in 700cc of 75W90 synthetic gear oil. The synthetic doesn't expand as much and dino oil. Also with the full 750cc you can get this issue you are describing. The 700cc is plenty. In fact when I do a change of gearbox and final drive I put 250cc in the final drive, and the rest of the bottle in the gearbox. Since a quart of oil is 949cc this works out perfect. You do know you have a drain plug at the back of the geabox in the rear cover?

Thanks John for sharing. I was wondering if I may have overfillled. Saturday going to change out the gearbox and final as you recommended. when I changed the final after I bought the bike I was shocked it was pure sludge. that was about 800 miles ago so ready to change again. and yes I know the location of the plug thanks
