Suggestions for Tires for a Griso 8v

I LOVE my pilot road 2's. My tires aren't even CLOSE to worn out, and i have 6k miles on them. The flat spot isn't really flat, it's just a little bit dull, and i would say they will probably make it to AT LEAST 8k at this rate, if not more. I would expect perhaps 10 before they get flat. I DONT drive this thing like a grandma, either. I'm no pro rider, but i have fun with it.

They are also stickier on the sides than the rennsports that came with it. I grind my kickstand regularly and i dont get any complaints from my tires. Would buy again in a heartbeat.

Problem I have with the PR2's is they have quite a flat/round profile, which on past bikes has meant grinding hard parts too easily, too often. On the Kwaka 1400GTR (aka C14 in USA) I owned I ended up scraping the hard panniers with flat/round profiles tyres, whereas with a higher profile (eg. Pirelli Diablo Corsa's) I didn't even scrape pegs often.

Plus, I find the Pilot Road's (or PR2CT's) too hard. I like a tyre that gets snot-ball sticky when I push it hard, although of course that means they don't last long.

The Pilot Powers have a very tall profile and the max lean angle is impressive (compared to, say, the PR2's) but personally I prefer Bridgies or Pirelli/Metzlers. I'm thinking about Racetec's or M3's next on the 8V.

Horses for courses. I have no doubt that for normal road riding or touring, the PR2CT is a good choice and I've heard many, many riders report great milage out of them. My Dad swears by them on his Blackbird as do most of the guys on the Kawasaki C14 and ZX14 forums. They seem to get around 10,000 km out of a set, at least. Also they report good grip in the wet.

Not had my Griso long, but it's got some Dunlops on at the moment. Good feedback and ok grip, just starting to let go gently and predictably at max-ish lean.

On my previous ZX10R, I had Diable Corsa III. I never trusted them, but they have such a good reputation that I thought it must be me, suspension, geometry etc etc. Until the last tyre change => changed to 2CT. Abolutely brilliant! All the feedback I wanted and plenty of grip for 180bhp.

It might ll be different for the Griso, but I'll be trying a pair of 2CTs next.

Edit: for a tyre post, there'll be 100 replies with 100 different answers! Different bikes, weights, geometries, road surfaces, riding styles etc

its true they have a dull profile. But they lean far enough for me to have fun, but not kill myself. I can do a full 45 degrees before i start to grind things, and that's enough for me (This angle has been verified with photographs)

They are also a little stiff, you are right, but i like the ride, and i only weigh 160.

I would and will buy them again.

Yeah, tire threads are full of opinions.
But I don't have a problem with PR2's on any of my three Guzzi's. I am not sure how the profile is going to have a noticeable impact on how much cornering clearance, either. Maybe a small difference, but not a large one. Maybe the better handling Michelins caused you to lean over further without realizing it and grinding hard parts off. That is just as likely.
But whatever. Quality tires are a good thing.

Hi all, new to posting on this forum but I have been a voyeur on this and the V11 site for quite a while.

I was looking for tires for my Griso in March and I saw Todd's post on the Dunlop Roadsmarts. I thought gee I ride like that and do track days so lets try a set. I have just hit the wear bars on both front and back and I have logged in 14,000kms (8700 miles). I am very impressed with the tires. I have run PP2's and 021's (mind you on my V11) and neither have given me this kind of mileage though the PP2's came close. As for stick, it is almost imposible to make these things let go, way too many things start grinding first. When they do slide it is very controlled, no surprises. Also, I ride in the rain a lot and they also feel very comfortable and assuring in the wet. I purchased these tires for less than the other two listed above so for the money I would give them 2 thumbs up.

BTW I haven't done a track day on them but judging by the the way they grip I would say they would be excellent track day tires definitely better than the 021's.

Overall though if you get a good discount on any of these tires I don't think you would go seriously wrong.

I hope that helps
