I'm starting to restore a '76 T3 I've had since '81. It has been sitting for 18 years without having been started. It is low mileage.
First question: The bores are chrome. I haven't seen them yet, but guess that with that much time sitting, the chrome is pitted. I'm told that even if they look ok, there will be small pits that will be a problem if I try to use them. What should I do with them? Can the chrome be repaired? Should I replace them? If so, are replacements chrome, iron, or what. I.e., what's the best route with the cylinders.
Thanks,
Jeff

Replacements made by Gillardoni with impregnable Nicasil coating are available. Come as a kit with piston, rings, gudgeon and clips. Not sure of current price. Contact MG Cycles and find out. Just order along with everything for the top end rebuild. Rick and Gordon are the Biz.

Pete

Thanks. I looked them up and that looks like the way to go. That's the kind of info I'll need throughout this restoration.
Regards,
Jeff

Not all 76 T-3s had chrome bores. Mine had neither chrome nor Nikisil. 1976 was a strange year. Take a look at them first before going to the expense of replacement. If you replace them, Gilardoni is the way to go. This thread may be of help https://www.guzzitech.com/forum/topic. ... der#p31837

I'm just down the road if you need local help.

You sure about that non-chrome T3, John? You own it from new, or buy from some prior owner who may have done whatever? Guzziology says ALL round head 700/850cc models except LM I & early LM II are chrome bore. My '78 T3, bought new by me, certainly was chrome as well. I've been a Guzzi owner since '73 or so & never seen or heard of a non-chrome bore T or T3 as they came from the factory. Not saying it couldn't be, & certainly no harm or difficulty in pulling the heads to check with a magnet, but it sure would have to be some kind of very rare abberation, esp if Dave Richardson has never seen or heard of it.

Hey its a small production italian factory - anything can happen and does! Seeing that my lemans of the same year had iron bores I can see them throwing them on T-3's if they ran out of chrome bores. i'd do the same myself.

Bob,

I owned it from new. At about 50,000 miles, she needed rings. Positive it didn't have chrome bores. I have seen them in Eldorados, but my T3 didn't have them.
