Later this week my wife and I our off on little adventure – a 5 day ride around South Korea. It's a 6.5 hour ferry to Busan from where we live, Fukuoka, Japan. From there no plans except to get out of the city ASAP! I'll be on my G8v and Emiko on her v7c. I just heard that they don't sell high oct gasoline over there - just regular. I mentioned this to my dealer and her said not to worry about it. Was wondering what others here thought or if any had any advice. Thanks!

You will have to burn what is available. Just listen for detonation. If you hear it, drop a gear to increase RPM and lower combustion pressure.

I rode my G8V from Singapore to Malaysia last month and pumped low octane gas (95RON) from the local gas station when my tank is left with ¼ tank of Shell V-Power from Singapore.

Ambient temperature was around 34°C (~93°F), average speed was around 130km/h (82mph). The engine ping-ed for the very first time in top gear if I feed the jugs with a big gulp of throttle while overtaking. Clearly audible from the windblast background noise under full face helmet and no ear plugs. I own the bike from new and it never happened for the past 10 months/10,000km.

Subsequently, I’ve tried to replicate the scenario again under the same circumstances with a tank-full of Shell V-Power instead of RON95. It didn’t ping at all no matter how hard I try.

The pinging can be avoided by dropping a cog and rolling the throttle gently (fast enough to overtake most of the cagers).

Enjoy your trip and ride safe.

So, is the Griso designed to run on 98-99 RON? I've been putting that in and some others have asked me why I put Super in it...

I just check with Shell Singapore, the V Power fuel we are getting here has 98RON. Since the price is not much different from 95RON fuel and I don’t use my bikes for commuting, I always fill them up with V Power.

It’s light blue in colour, drained from one of my bike’s carb bowl.

My Griso 8V gets 95RON almost all the time. I get it from the popular brands: shell, texaco, esso. Never had a problem with it. :)

I always use the highest octane rating I can find, always hopeful that it might extend the tanks range a little too. I'd presume that if you're worried about poor quality fuel whilst out and about you could carry something like Castrol Valvemaster with the octane booster.

Completely unrelated really, but my V50 runs real grotty on 95.

My V50 always ran on super unless I was desperate, so I'm with you there.

I do feel the G11 gets a little more economy on super.
