I need to swap out all all the internals of my current tank to put them on/into another tank. Before I go ahead and do the swap does anyone know if I need to order any replacement seals or gaskets first... I want to be able to avoid having the vehicle off the road for a length of time awaiting parts.

I should point out that I am merely replacing a standard tank with another standard tank, just with a different paint scheme.

Thanks in advance ;)

I replaced my original Norge tank with a new one a year or so ago. Believe pretty much same (and possibly identical) as what you will do.

As I recall, only two "issues" were the usual PITA of getting the "quick release" to let go, a common topic here, and NOT following the service manual's 25Nm torque values ( :woohoo: ) for the fuel filter fasteners when reinstalling.

If you haven't replaced the fuel filter recently, I'd do that. Think the all-metal BMW model is what folks recommend. If you do that, you may need to be prepared to use new clamps/crimps, etc., to keep that in place. The one-use clamps are, I think, just that ... one-use.

Believe this all may have appeared here before, so a search may pop something else.

I had the bottom off mine to replace the fuel filter, the seal is rubber and it'll only need replacing if you damage it.

As Bill says...
You might want to replace the fuel filter whilst you're in there if it still has the plastic type fitted. The clips will need cutting off and replacing, unless you have the correct tool for the standard pipe clips you're better off using fuel injector hose clips, 8-11mm if I remember correctly. The correct fuel filter to use is a UFI 31.760.00

I can't give any advice around the filler cap end.

I messed up a gasket my first try or maybe it was already defective. What I did the second time was to make sure that gasoline didn't get on the gasket, and cause it to swell, so I thoroughly dried the pump assembly before putting it back in. There's not correct torque, the screws bottom out on the metal sleeves in the gasket. The pump was a little tricky to get out, you can use a screwdriver to press on hose that hangs up on the opening.

If any rubber seals/gaskets/'O' rings etc swell to the point that they no longer fit and spares are not handy, look up your local V8 4 barrell carby restorer. He will have a solution to drop your big rubber bits in, they will come out OEM size and shape. Don't know what its called but it basically draws out and neutralizes the effects of any petroleum based product.

Thanks for all the replies guys, very useful as always. The bikes done 10.5k miles and I doubt the filter has been replaced so I may as well get a new one as suggested. ;)
