First, thank you for the previous threads on DOR (Dead on Road) Griso….My 2007-1100 was enjoying a good run only to die 30 miles in the mountains. Once trailered home, and after reading up on issues, I popped the cap, hit the ignition and listed to what sounded like a school of salmon swimming up stream. Fuel line split or free floating filter?
Biggest issue is that some "numb-nut" replaced the fuel filter at some point before I bought her, and buggered the fuel line connection (took 2 hrs to remove). Carefully removed the pump and what to my eyes do I see......a free floating filter with non-submergible fuel line, cheep clamps (numb=nuts strikes again), and crud on the pump base and pressure valve (?). The crud looks like oxidation or material degradation, but brushes off easily and no discernable damage or corrosion.
The advice needed is:
1. Should I do away with the quick connect for the fuel line(haha on the quick!) and just cut and gear-clamp? Afraid that the line may not re-connect properly...…….gas leak or disconnect and burn. All of Southern Colorado is a tinder box so the last thing I want to do is burn the my bike, let alone the whole state,
2. Switch to all Stainless steel gear clamps inside tank?
3. Replace the ribbed longer OEM fuel line with SAE 30R10?
4. Does anyone have any idea what the crud is that is covering parts of the aluminum base and side of the pump and pressure valve (I think that what thing is)?
5. Is there an off the shelf USA available Fuel Filter to replace the UFI 31-700-00 (rather not wait)? If I have to wait, I will, but I only have so many days in my life to ride.....
6. Any final advice before I put it back together?

Thank you again for the threads on previous Griso problems. You all are my hero's……..well except for
the guy who did the number on the fuel system before me....."may the fleas of a thousand camels find lodging in his crotch",

Thanks John:
Sourced filter locally (UFI 31-760-00), replaced all internal fuel lines with SAE 30R10 (expensive stuff) and used Stainless Steel gear clamps, cleaned off all the crud being careful with compressed air.....checked electrical connections (did a little brush work too). Hylomar Sealant for the gasket and snugged up all the bolts. Didn't mess with replacing the Quick Release as I got it to function normally after working the release, and a little WD40. Hooked up all the line to temp-battery, threw in a pint of high test, cycled it twice to check for leaks.....then fired up, and brought it to 4k---then 5k---topped at 5.5k then down to idle. Oil and SERVICE light came on shortly there after. I had to properly install the battery, so disconnected power....reconnected and she fired right up with no issues or lights. Short ride all good.

The one thing I didn't do was to cycle start up with the pump electric disconnected to relieve pressure in the lines...….;next time...
If anyone is replacing internal fuel lines, the SAE 30R10l is expensive stuff.....cheaper on eBay/Amazon....local parts-shop was $25US per foot. I could of used an additional 2-3 inches but managed with what I had.
Thanks to those whos' other posts I gleaned info from.....
Ride safe and ride smart!
