I was out last week in northern Quebec in the Cree Nation community of Ouje-Bougoumou, "The place where people gather", about 750 km north of Montreal.

This community was recently settled in 1992 by cree natives who were scattered across the territory and continuously displaced by mining and logging interests.
They created a quite progressive community which was recognized by the UN, caring for their elders and children.

Getting there was uneventful as is typical with the Norge. The roads are in good condition and the scenery was fantastic following the St-Maurice river, then up through Lac St-Jean, and the Ashuapmushuan wildlife reserve.

I didn't take that many road pictures because stopping entailed being immediately feasted upon by countless black flies. Honestly I swear you could hear them chew, and I think one of them burped!

I hope to get to see the Western side of Canada pretty soon. Perhaps a trip to Alaska is in order.

Nice!

Blackflies, eh? Secret weapon of the newly invented scooter police I read about? :silly:
