After a long ordeal resulting from a 2-inch gash and a handful of broken spokes, the Stelvio is back on the road. Todd did a great job of sourcing the spokes, and more importantly, the expertise for relacing the wheel so that it's true and doesn't leak air. Had I gone to any Guzzi dealer, the verdict would have been $600+ for a new wheel, but Todd made it happen for about $125. Thanks for getting it done, Todd, and saving me some coin in the process.

Great to be back on the Stelvio.

Thanks Wallis, I'm happy to be of help. I'm also happy to report that after a long journey I am now able to source parts for the Alpina spoked wheels (hub, rims and spokes), and an approved repair source. As Wallis referred to above, no parts are available via your dealer, only complete wheels, which hover closer to $1200+ on a good day. Not sure where the $600 came from above.
If you need parts or repair, contact me direct.

Sorry, Todd, to underestimate the cost of the new Stelvio wheel-- but I knew that any Guzzi tubeless wheel is at least $600. No idea a new one for the Stelvio would set me back twice that. Ouch.

Yes, ~$1000/FR & ~$1200/RR. I did the narrower rear NTX wheel last year for $850+ shipping. I can do custom sizes & colors for $2200/set + color option. I'm also offering an alternate brand as posted in the Classifieds.

Hi Todd
How much for a set of stainless spokes, front and back for an NTX.

I'm curious, are stainless spokes a wise choice? I'm reluctant to use stainless bolts in critical situations (prefer nickel plated steel) due to their reputation for failing under severe load. I would assume this would also apply for spokes?

The nickel ones on my NTX are crap, and are rusted and discoloured after just one english winter.

I'm thinking of using Hagons.
They offer stainless spokes and have been building wheels for years.

Yep a good old name Hagon, you won't go wrong there.

I was down in Wales today sliding the Guzzi through the roads coverd in cow shit and mud so thought I'd call in A&D to see if they'll replace the spokes under warranty. They've took photo's and I'll have to wait a fortnight for a decision. If they'll swap them under warranty I may as well go down that route if not then the bikes getting stainless fitted.

Going off topic I also had a look at the new Triumph Tiger 800, I really fancied one of those but in the flesh it just didn't do it for me, bit too small and flimsy looking in my opinion though highly rated by some.

All, I'll assume a stainless re-lace by others then requires a tube, yes? I have sourced the OEM tubeless Alpina spokes, which are supposedly un-obtanium. Ian, let us know how you fair with the dealer.

I've e mailed the wheelbuilding company here in the Uk, will let you know what they say & likewise will update you on the warranty claim.

This was my reply from CNC:-

These are the Alpina Tubeless system nipples, we can rebuild these wheels for you, we would look to re-use the nipples for you as the replacements are costly, so you woudl need new stainless spokes, these will have to be metric to match the nipples, this in itself is not a problem, but will mean the wheels take a little longer to rebuild as our threading machinery is set on imperial most of the time. The rebuild is a touch more sensitive so the costs would be:

2 Sets of Stainless spokes (no nipples ) @ £45.00
2 Wheels rebuilt with the original STS Tubeless nipples @ £70.00
Return carriage for the 2 wheels if required would be £20.00

All the above prices include VAT so the total cost would be £250.00 including postage and VAT.

I think this is quite reasonable for two wheels, wadya think????

Ian

at that price it's something i'd look at doing in the future to my bike. i'd rather wait until the finish on my spokes has well and truely gone. if you go for it i'd like to see the results

Latest with my spokes is Guzzi need more photo's before they can make a decision, why they can't trust the dealers word I will never know
