So, I took off my oil pan because I have to get the hole rethreaded and found this laying at the bottom of the pan. Any idea? The dealer had no clue and is waiting to hear back fro Guzzi. Bike was working fine. Assembly line mistake? Top view included. IMG 6153 IMG 6152

Likely is. Pics below. Question is now is it from your bike (most likely). Dealer will have to dig in to see.

Timing chain is at the front of the engine, it turns the camshaft via a chain driven from a sprocket on the crankshaft. The tensioner keeps the chain taught. I think you should read up on how a 4 stroke engine works.

Thank you!

Wow, that's helpful. Is it from a Merlin V12? Seriously, where could it have come from if it's not from your engine?
It doesn't look like it was flailing around inside the engine so you might be alright.
Yeah,I know! Thanks for all the info and help on this. I've had the worst experience with this dealer.

Long ago, there was a time where I could be of help. But my hands have been slapped too many times for helping. Do not link your dealer here, rather send them the photos I posted above and tell them that is likely the spring. If yours is missing, it should be noisy, and could be catastrophic. If it were me (and I them), I would dig into your engine to ensure it's not the cam chain tensioner. Do not mention me or this website.

I sent them the photo.
The only help I ever get is from Guzzi riders and forums etc. Dealership has done nothing. When my bike had tinging sounds and issues with power, they told me to keep riding it "Guzzi's make those sounds" Received help from and other Guzzi owner and learned about emissions and getting the bike flashed, pipes etc.

If the dealer is no help take the cover off yourself and check the tensioner, its not a difficult or specialist job. A local garage could assist.
He would likely be under warranty, and a gasket is needed. I wouldn’t recommend this job to just anyone.

Thanks Kevin!
Hello Kevin I have a spare 2017 v9 roamer 850 cc engine the engine has 1500 miles on it if you have problems finding this part I would be more that happy to send you what you need. All I ask that you make a donation to the site here to help Todd out. So if you can't find what you need, let me know.

This is the response I received from the service manager…

This is THE STUPIDEST response I have ever seen from a Service Manager…Good God. 🤦‍♂️

GTM hit the nail on the head! I agree 100% with his estimation.

That spring is the same spring in his photo. Exactly the same.

The mounting method of that spring is abysmal. Just a stamped and bent metal tab! Truly terrible.

Thank you.

Could you use a bore scope camera to look at the cam chain tensioner areas? If there is enough opening for the spring to fall down to the pan, then it should be possible to gently push a flexible camera up far enough to see if a spring is missing.
