I'm having a little trouble with the tb sync, and I noticed that after I do the tps reset, the throttle position reads 4.8 when the throttle is all the way off.

Shouldn't the throttle position be 0.0 when it's all the way off?

I did the reset and "passed" but the bike isn't running right, so I'm wondering if something went wrong with the settings I have.....

The 4.8 degrees at idle is correct.

Was it running right before you touched it or are you trying to fix a poor running issue?

It was running great.

I removed the already disconnected can.

Rerouted the vent line.

Balanced the tb's

and reset the tps

Now it runs like crap.

I probably screwed up the tb balance. I have a heck of a time getting that right. Last time I did it, I had to turn the screw more than usual....

If you had to turn it more than usual ....that might be the problem!
You may have had a vacuum leak going to the gauges ..... therefore compensated for the leaks you unbalanced the TBs.
Check the gauge, tubing and fitting for any leaks before you balance.

(I always keep note of the positions before turning any adjustements I'm not sure of)

Ben,

If you removed everything (charcoal can and associated plumbing) and have the ports plugged with allen screws on the TB runners there shouldn't be a vacuum leaks.

When I rebalanced after removing everything I screwed the adjustment screws in all the way first, threw my gauages on and everything was dead on, no playing with the screws. I do wish someone would make a flexable allen tool to reach those damn adjustment srews though, I burn the crap out of my hands each time I attempt to fool with them.

When you installed the reflashed ECU, did you reset the TPS before running the bike? Todd sent me a email saying that needed to be done, nothing about rebalncing the TB's though, shouldn't need to.

I think my carb sync tool is failing me. I have one of the new Motion Pro Syncpro's. The type that doesn't have mercury in it. And it sucks. Bubbles up every time I try to use it, and then I'm not sure if the readings are accurate. Anyway, I'm tossing it. Ordered a Twin Max today; should be here soon.....

I took an allen wrench and bent the crap out of it so I could adjust the idle without bumping into the bolts in front of the screw; and now it works pretty well. It was a cheap wrench; I wouldn't do that to a good one. Still, it was pretty hard to bend (I had also tried to saw it down to size, but that was even harder).

I've used both the Twin Max and the Carbmate as well as mercury tubes in the past. By far the Carbmate is the easiest to use and cost the same as the Twin Max.

I'll have to look into those. Other then being portable, I don't care much for the Twinmax. Always drifting off zero and needle bouncing around. Not as good as my old mercury sticks for sure, but they went bad.

I had taken a look at the specs and accuracy of different sync gauges with others opinion.

My conclusion was the cheapest homemade was more accurate. :)
