Hello

Need help about torque settings on Griso 1100. I have found some on this homepage, and in the service book. I can't find anything about gearbox torque settings, and 12Nm to the motoroil drainplug is that ok, it's the same type of plug as the gearbox and CARC drainplug.

Gearbox: Levelplug ?Nm, Drainplug ?Nm.

CARC: Drainplug 30Nm, Breatherplug 30Nm, Levelplug 35Nm.

Motoroil: Drainplug 12Nm (seen in the service book) .

Sparkplug: 20Nm.

Hi Steffen,

First of all, welcome to the forum.

Here are the torque settings I used on my 2009 Griso 8V for your reference. No oil leak, no stripped threads yet after 3 oil changes so I guess it is fine.

Gearbox/transmission:
Level plug/filler plug – 28Nm
Drain plug – 20Nm (Guzzi manual says 24Nm, I standardized all the drain plugs to 20Nm since they are all the same in size)

CARC:
Drain plug – 20Nm
Breather plug – You don’t need to remove this during oil change and 30Nm is definitely a misprint, you will most likely strip the threads if you apply 30Nm to this tiny breather.
Level plug/filler plug – 17Nm (I figured this out by using a digital torque wrench to align a witness mark painted on the plug. With new copper washer under the plug, my torque wrench read 17Nm when the marks aligned)

Engine sump:
Drain plug – 20Nm

Spark plug – 13Nm (figured out from NGK website, Guzzi manual says 30Nm)

Guzzi uses Dowty type sealing washer on all the 3 drain plugs, it requires very little clamping force to seal. The metal part of the washer is steel so you don’t crush it like a copper or aluminum washer to seal, the rubber insert will expand and seal when you tighten the drain/sump plug.

Thank you Phang

I will try your torque settings, another question, how much torque for the oilfilter? My service book says 18Nm.

Again, I used the method of combining a digital torque wrench and my “feel”

I am using the 14 flutes UFI 2328700 oil filter. With a light coat of fresh engine on the filter’s O ring, my digital torque wrench will read 12~13Nm when my hand felt the right “tightness”. No oil leak or weeping on the 2 oil filters that I have changed which I torqued it to 12Nm.

I know it sounds silly to use a torque wrench on an oil filter, I don’t do that to my car and the other 2 bikes but somehow I feel more reassured if I can tighten things in a more consistent manner on my first Italian bike

MGNA recommends 15Nm. Also the use of the Bosch 3330 filter (same that is used on BMWs except R1200s). It won't leak as some of the UFIs have.
